Overall, I thought it was okay in some respects, good in others, but the characters aren't as compelling or of interest to me due to the fractured way of the story unfolded. The direction by Innaritu is good, and so are the performances by the 3 leads (Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, and Benecio del Toro). I just feel that the story let down the performances.

I give it a 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.
