For Colored Girls

Men are bad, I guess that's the big surprise waiting for viewers of "For Colored Girls", Tyler Perry's latest effort, which was adapted from a play, so the dialogue is full of flowery monologues at times, but a cut above most of Tyler Perry-penned movies.  Unfortunately, Perry is not all that skilled as a filmmaker to translate this play into a rich cinematic viewing experience, and it just turns into a boring, plodding mess where a cast of "colored" women, who share low degrees of separaction with one another, undergo all sorts of bad things to themselves, with men being the root all all that is bad in their lives.  Couple that with a plea for girls to take back their power, it turns a 30-minute after-school special topic into a long-winded 2-hour movie that bludgeons its audience into sheer oblivion.

I give it 1 star, or a grade of D.
