The Expendables 2

Sylvester Stallone is back with most of the crew from the first Expendables film, along with some added 80s action film icons, for the next installment.

My 2-word review: Hilariously violent.

If you remember the violence level from the last "Rambo" film, then you have an idea how high the body count is with this film, as well as the bloodiness (stretching its R rating for all its worth in the violence department), but it's done to the same level of the "ED-209 gone amok" scene from Robocop, it's simply played for laughs, and hilariously so.

Along with all the geriatric action stars on the screen (Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Jean-Claduie van Damme, and some other cameos), come the one-liners during a hail of bullets or action scenes, playing up the charm of the old-time action flicks of yesteryear.  But the film would not be as fun if you didn't enjoy the Expendables crew, and there are interpersonal scenes that also bring some laughs, and vulnerabilities under their exteriors of being cold-blooded mercenaries.

For its action film genre, and delivering on the all-out violence (explosions, guns, hand-to-hand combat, etc.), it's a solid couple of hours of action pr0n.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.
