A follow-up from "Red", "Red 2" doesn't feel too fresh, but given the geriatric headliners, maybe that was the point. "RED" stands for Retired, Extremely Deadly, the classification for retired CIA hitmen and agents who are hard to put down when necessary.
Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is one such entity, as is his buddy Marvin (John Malkovich). Frank's girlfriend Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) is bored as Frank tries to live the quiet life with her, but things perk up when Frank and Marvin get implicated with a cold war op named "Nightshade" and their lives go back to spy-ops as they try to stay alive with hitmen sent to collect them.
Maybe if the film was a little more tongue-in-cheek, I'd enjoy it more. As-is, it was a little too safe, a little too predictable. But it fills that "old man in action film" niche well enough.
I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.
